The new fall/winter dramas are:
FASTLANE -- McG, director of
"Charlie's Angels" and John McNamara, writer of "The
Fugitive", take television straight into the FASTLANE, following two cops
as they go undercover to take down the highest -- and lowest -- criminals in Los
Angeles. Fifty-one percent cop and forty-nine percent criminal, Van Ray (Peter
Facinelli) and Deaqon Hayes (Bill Bellamy) are ready for anything -- and have
access to everything, thanks to the Candy Store. A warehouse of seized Gucci,
Rolexes, Ducatis, and Ferraris, the Candy Store has all that is necessary to
outfit two young cops with the ultimate backstage pass into the glamorous world
of high-stakes crime. FASTLANE takes us for a ride-along as Van and Deaq do
their thing on the Sunset Strip. Guided by the strong hand of their sexy female
boss, Billie Chambers (Tiffani Thiessen), they're in for the toughest, wildest
ride of their lives. These are cops who make it happen -- hard chargers who can
get past the rope and go all night.
Production Company: Warner Bros. Television; Executive Producers: McG, John McNamara, Daniel Rappaport; Producers: Stephanie Savage, Perry Husman; Writers: McG, John McNamara; Director: McG.
Cast: Peter Facinelli (The Scorpion King") as Van Ray, Bill Bellamy (MTV) as Deaqon Hayes, Tiffani Thiessen ("Beverly Hills, 90210") as Billie Chambers.
FIREFLY -- Joss Whedon, creator of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," and an Academy Award nominee for "Toy Story," brings a powerful, original science-fiction adventure to the screen in FIREFLY. Set 800 years in the future, in the wake of a universal civil war, FIREFLY centers on the crew of Serenity, a small transport spaceship. The crew members will take any job -- legal or not -- to stay afloat and put bread on their table. Thrust together by necessity, these disparate men and women are cowboys of the future. They're seeking adventure and the good life, but facing constant challenges on the new frontier, which test and reveal their true identities. FIREFLY is about their unpredictable lives and relationships, as well as their search for meaning in a very uncertain time.
Production Company: Mutant Enemy, Inc. in association with 20th Century Fox Television; Executive Producer/Writer/Director: Joss Whedon.
Cast: Nathan Fillion as Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds; Gina Torres as Zoe; Alan Tudyk as Wash; Sean Maher as Simon Tam; Adam Baldwin as Jayne; Jewel Staite as Kaylee; Summer Glau as River Tam; Ron Glass as Book "The Shepherd"; Morena Baccarin as Inara.
GIRLS' CLUB -- Three young female attorneys are determined to make their mark on the justice system in 'GIRLS' CLUB', the latest re-invention of the legal drama from David E. Kelley, creator of "Ally McBeal" and "The Practice." A relationship-driven series set in San Francisco, one of the world's most romantic and vibrant cities, 'GIRLS CLUB' explores the personal and professional lives of three twenty-seven-year-olds -- best friends since law school -- who live together. Lynne Camden (Gretchen Mol), Jeannie Falls (Kathleen Robertson) and Sarah Mickle (Chyler Leigh) share a desire to achieve success and fulfillment in their lives, despite being employed by an "old boys club" law firm.
Production Company: David E. Kelley Productions in association with 20th Century Fox Television; Executive Producer/Writer: David E. Kelley; Co-Executive Producer: Jack Bender.
Cast: Gretchen Mol ("Sweet and Lowdown") as Lynne Camden, Kathleen Robertson ("I Am Sam", "Beverly Hills 90210") as Jeannie Falls, Chyler Leigh ("That '80s Show") as Sarah Mickle, Giancarlo Esposito ("Ali") as William Hahn.
JOHN DOE -- From director Mimi Leder ("ER," "The Peacemaker," "Deep Impact") and writers Brandon Camp and Mike Thompson, comes the story of John Doe, a mysterious man who rises from the primordial waters of an isolated island, possessing knowledge of literally everything in the world, yet having no memory of who -- or even what -- he is. Doe quickly finds his way to Seattle, where he befriends the police and uses his special gift to help them solve "impossible" crimes each week, while continuing his unending quest to uncover who he is and where he came from. Despite his considerable charm, Doe (Dominic Purcell) is an emotional island unto himself. Want to know the population of Peru in 1853? How many blue cars there are in the state of Washington? Or better yet, predict which horse will win every race at the track based on knowing all the variables? Doe has all the answers. But what is he like? Family man or loner? Hero or villain? What is truly in his soul? Doe doesn't have a clue. In his search to unlock the key to his past, Doe is joined by Hayes (John Marshall Jones), a cop assigned to the case of a missing girl who Doe intuitively feels may have some connection to his previous life. Impressed with Doe's extraordinary talents, Hayes sees something special in this odd stranger. Hayes' boss, Lt. Jamie Avery (Elizabeth Lackey), on the other hand, is not as easily convinced that Doe is on the straight and narrow and seeks to uncover the truth about him in her own way. He may be a government agent, an extra-terrestrial or perhaps just a regular John Doe with a bout of amnesia. Whatever secrets his past holds, Doe is now the man who knows everything -- a gift that will forever change his destiny.
Production Company: Regency Television; Executive Producers: Brandon Camp, Mike Thompson, Mimi Leder; Writers: Brandon Camp, Mike Thompson; Director: Mimi Leder.
Cast: Dominic Purcell ("Mission Impossible 2") as John Doe, Azura Skye ("28 Days") as Karen, Elizabeth Lackey ("Mulholland Drive") as Lt. Jamie Avery, John Marshall Jones as Hayes, Meatloaf Aday as Digger.
SEPTUPLETS -- You've heard of the Dionne quintuplets and the Thompson sextuplets, but you're about to meet the Wilde septuplets. They were a challenge for their parents when they were seven newborns (four boys and three girls), but just imagine what life is like for them as they turn sixteen. Known as the Wilde Seven, they live with their parents in their small, upscale, family-run hotel situated on an idyllic beach in Southern California. While the hotel serves as the backdrop for the family's personal adventures, it also provides a never-ending stream of guests whose stories weave into the Wildes' life experiences. With an unusual family like this, every day is unpredictable, including the septuplets' 16th birthday -- a day that will include the traditional surprise party, as well as several other surprises: a wedding that's on the rocks, a power outage, a heat wave, a mermaid, a magical act of nature and a dreamy teenage hunk who brings out the best in a serious sibling rivalry.
Production Company: 20th Century Fox Television; Executive Producers: Kip Koenig, Dawn Parouse; Writer: Kip Koenig; Director: Michael Spiller.
Cast: Marguerite MacIntyre as Kay, Vincent Angell as August, Danny Swerdlow as Getty, Travis Wester as Mattix, Nora Zehetner as Dot, Maggie Grace as Hope, Patrick Flueger as Zeke, Nathan West as Jackson, Samantha Streets as Sammie.
The new fall/winter comedies are:
CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER PRESENTS -- Cedric
The Entertainer hosts and performs in a new variety series that takes its cue
from the big comedy variety shows of the 1950s. Cedric will preside over a team
of actors, comedy performers and the Ced-sation dancers, delivering a fast-
paced and laugh-out-loud-funny half-hour. Each week, we will see Cedric and his
troupe portray a wide variety of characters, including the Love Doctor, a
satin-robed marriage therapist in love with the sound of his own mellifluous
voice; Raj, a golf commentator who literally can't stand the heat; Mrs.
Cafeteria Lady, the judgemental woman behind the food counter with whom no
student or teacher should mess; and Tanisha, the girl from around the way who
injects lots of drama into Cedric's life. We also get to see Cedric get his
groove on with the many talented women in the show. Cedric The Entertainer
Presents is written and executive produced by Matt Wickline and John Bowman
("In Living Color," "Martin"), directed and executive
produced by Stan Lathan ("Def Comedy Jam") and executive produced by
Cedric The Entertainer.
Production Company: 20th Century Fox Television: Executive Producers: Matt Wickline, John Bowman, Stan Lathan, Cedric The Entertainer; Writers: Matt Wickline, John Bowman; Director: Stan Lathan.
Cast: Cedric The Entertainer ("The Original Kings of Comedy"), Wendy Raquel Robinson, Shaun Majumder, Amy Brassette.
THE GRUBBS -- Life for 14-year-old Mitch Grubb (Michael Cera) isn't easy. Despite having a big heart, he's a poster child for mediocrity: a C-minus student and poor athlete, his biggest dream is to fly under everybody's radar. This is hardly surprising since Mitch is one in a long line of underachieving Grubbs who take a twisted pride in the status quo. His father, Mike Grubb (Randy Quaid) learned at a young age that there is no reason to work hard when there are easy ways to beat the system. Mitch's simplistic, enthusiastic older brother Jimmy Grubb (Brian Sites) plans to drop out at 16 to go work at the steel mill -- like his father and grandfather before him. And his mother, Rosie Grubb (Carol Kane), loves her family fiercely. But hope finally knocks on the Grubbs' door in the form of Mitch's beautiful new teacher, Ms. Krenetsky (Lori Rom), who sees his potential and teaches him to dream. As for Mitch, he is sure he's discovered a love so true that his life will never be the same. Written by Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia ("That '70s Show"), THE GRUBBS is a half-hour comedy about small victories -- and about a boy with the hope, heart and sheer force of will that it takes to rise above his fate.
Production Company: Granada Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Television in association with Universal Television; Executive Producers: Joshua Sternin, Jeffrey Ventimilia, Ann Johnson; Writers: Joshua Sternin, Jeffrey Ventimilia; Director: Andrew Weyman.
Cast: Randy Quaid ("National Lampoon's Vacation," "Independence Day") as Mike Grubb; Carol Kane ("My First Mister", "Man in the Moon") as Rosie Grubb; Michael Cera as Mitch Grubb; Brian Sites as Jimmy Grubb; Lori Rom as Ms. Krenetsky; Ricardo Antonio Chavira as Coach Garra.
OLIVER BEENE -- It's 1962, and 11-year-old Oliver Beene's (Grant Rosenmeyer) world is filled with chaos. His eccentric family includes his dentist father, Jerry (Grant Shaud), whose idea of a fun Sunday is drilling his kids' teeth; mother Charlotte (Wendy Makkena), who is doing her best to be a happy homemaker; and brother Ted (Andy Lawrence), a sports fanatic never without his transistor radio. Making life more bearable are Oliver's eccentric friends, including heavyweight Neal (Ben Bookbinder) and lightweight Michael (Taylor Emerson), who is already obviously gay in a time when gay still means "happy." Narrated by the wickedly wry, adult Oliver, OLIVER BEENE depicts the trials of growing up during the Cold War. Like every kid, Oliver longs for family normalcy and peer acceptance, especially while practicing drills for the end of civilization in a fallout shelter with his family during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Along the way, Oliver must contend with Mrs. Heller (Annie Korzen), a teacher who hates him; Joyce (Daveigh Chase), a classmate who feels she's married to him; and Bonnie (Amy Castle), the unattainable red-haired girl. Writer Howard Gewirtz, ("Wings"), who survived the Cuban Missile Crisis in his own family's fallout shelter, and producer Steven Levitan ("Just Shoot Me") use flashbacks and flash- forwards to vividly re-create the Kennedy-era sixties in this fast-paced comedy.
Production Company: DreamWorks Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television; Executive Producers: Howard Gewirtz, Steven Levitan; Writer: Howard Gewirtz; Director: Jeff Melman.
Cast: Grant Rosenmeyer as Oliver, Grant Shaud ("Murphy Brown") as Jerry, Wendy Makkena as Charlotte, Andy Lawrence as Ted, Daveigh Chase as Joyce, Ben Bookbinder as Neal, Taylor Emerson as Michael, Annie Korzen as Mrs. Heller, Amy Castle as Bonnie.
The new fall/winter alternative series are:
30 SECONDS TO FAME -- In this
fast-paced half hour, both talented and not-so-talented contestants have 30
seconds to demonstrate a particular skill to the judges and a cynical studio
audience. At the end of each episode, one lucky winner will take home $25,000.
Production Company: Explorer Production Group; Executive Producers: Michael Binkow, Joe Revello.
MEET THE MARKS -- Are you tired of the same ol' predictable sitcoms year after year? Do you love your comedies, but still feel like you need something new? Well, then imagine a cast made up of improvisational actors whose set is a real house in a real neighborhood, completely rigged with hidden cameras. Welcome to MEET THE MARKS, a true hybrid of a scripted sitcom melded with the reality genre. Consisting of two different stories per half-hour, fully scripted storylines will call for someone from the outside world ("the Mark") to walk into the show and become the guest star without knowing that he or she is a part of a television episode. It will have the look and feel of a sitcom, but will also have the added element of potential surprise -- since we will never fully be sure how our "mark" will react! MEET THE MARKS is from Emmy Award-winning producer Vin Di Bona. Along with Di Bona, Jeff Eastin writes and co-executive produces. Eastin recently wrapped up duties co-writing the sequel for James Cameron's latest movie, "True Lies 2."
Production Company: Vin Di Bona Productions; Executive Producer: Vin Di Bona; Co- Executive Producer/Writer: Jeff Eastin.
Cast: Joe O'Connor, Cathy Shambley, Patrick Cavanaugh, Kaitlin Olson, Lauren Katz, Oscar Nunez.
