...my mom is my hero.
Tory Stratton - Missy Peregrym

On The WB's new action drama Black Sash, Missy Peregrym has her work cut out for her. As Tory, a streetwise chick obsessed with avenging her father's murder, this Vancouver native must learn to put a lid on her fiery temper and master Ba Gua, a Chinese martial art. But that's the least of this Hollywood newcomer's worries. In addition, Peregrym must also learn to fend off the romantic advances of some of the cutest actors on The WB. It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it, eh?

My character is: "Not exactly girlfriend material. She's independent, selfish and very angry. She can also be very soft and vulnerable. She doesn't relate to girlie stuff like makeup and sleepovers. She's into kicking ass."

I think Tory's story is compelling because: "She began studying martial arts because she was out for revenge. She quickly becomes one of the top students in the class. But along the way she also starts to go through a transformation. She's beginning to realize that martial arts is good for the soul."

Finally, I will be famous for more than my head of hair: "I started out as a model in Vancouver. Basically, I did a lot of hair stuff and catalogs. Honestly, it got boring pretty quickly. But the good news is that modeling led me to acting."

The trickiest aspect of my job so far is: "I'm not talented enough for back flips. So far, I've been lucky. It's not like they expect me to do crazy stunts or chop wood with my hands. My character rides a Harley. Right now, it's too dangerous for me to actually get on the thing but you never know, there's always the next episode."

Why I blame everything on my parents: "My parents have had a huge positive impact on me. They are the reason why I have been able to maintain my cool. They support me one hundred percent. I know this sounds really cheesy, but my mom is my hero."

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Peregrym has lived most of her life in Surrey, B.C. with her father, a minister, her mother and two sisters. She began her career in front of the camera at age 18 when she started modeling. The print advertisements soon turned into commercials for Mercedes Benz, Sprint Canada and the Olympics. It wasn't long before Hollywood came calling.

Peregrym's first guest appearance was on the action-drama series Dark Angel opposite Jessica Alba. She followed that up with the role of Julia on the critically acclaimed cable series The Chris Isaak Show. Her next audition landed her the plum role of Tory in Black Sash.

A dedicated soccer player, Peregrym's new schedule has forced her to take time away from the sport, but she picks up games whenever she can. She also enjoys snowboarding and outdoor sports on the local Vancouver mountains. Peregrym currently resides in Vancouver with her family.
