TRACI LORDS TO EMCEE
DAWN-LOOK-ALIKE CONTEST
(ATLANTA,
GA) – Traci Elizabeth
Lords, actress/singer/songwriter,
will emcee the Dawn-Look-Alike
Contest at Dragon*Con 2002. The annual event is based on the popular comic
book character Dawn, created by Joseph
Michael Linsner. Contestants compete for the first place prize of $1,000 in
cash.
Traci
Lords is the perfect choice for emcee. Her sultry beauty and sassiness rival
Dawn… but Lords is no stranger to science fiction. After studying at The
Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in LA, she was quickly cast for the sci-fi
cult hit, Not of This Earth. She later moved on to mainstream classics
such as Stephen King’s The Tommyknockers, Virtuosity, and Blade;
and has enjoyed recurring roles on television in Profiler and First
Wave. She also guest starred in TV series Super Force, Highlander,
Tales from the Crypt, Viper and Hercules: The Legendary
Journeys.
However,
Lords' career is not limited to sci-fi. In 1990, it was her role in Cry Baby
that got the film industry’s attention and proved she wasn’t just a pretty
face. In 2000,
she received the Best Actress
award at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival for her starring role in the romantic
comedy Chump Change. Since 1988, she has appeared in over 60 movies,
videos and TV shows, including fitness videos. She received Executive Producer
credit in 1997 for the film Extramarital, in which she also starred and
in1998, was the subject for The
E! True Hollywood Story. Other notable TV guest appearances include Married…with
Children, MacGyver, Nash Bridges and recurring roles on Roseanne
and Melrose Place.
Lords’
versatility is also reflected in her parallel career as a singer/songwriter.
In 1995, she released 1000
Fires, an album from Radioactive Records. This album, a mixture of
progressive electronic and techno music, yielded the hit dance single Control,
which rose to #2 on the Billboard Charts. One of Lords' songs made it onto the Mortal
Kombat soundtrack, which went double platinum. She also had the unique
opportunity to combine her acting and singing careers by performing one of her
own songs in the film Virtuosity.
Lords is currently focusing on writing her autobiography. She recently signed a deal with Harper/Collins.
