Sampios Address: 2809 San Jacinto Blvd. Austin, TX 78704 Show me this location on a Mapquest Map of Austin (Part of Town: University) Phone: 469-9988 Cost: ![]() Type of Food: Brazilian Recommended Items: We visited Sampios twice in the past month as part of a school manners lesson. The people at the restaurant could not have been more accommodating dealing with 18 children, many who are picky eaters (or culinary challenged as the teacher called them) and 2 children with special diets. One of these diets was CD. They did everything they could to see that everyone had the meal they wanted. There are a lot of sauces on the foods and I do not know if any or all of these contain gluten. But, for us they specially prepared a grilled chicken breast and served it with fruit and pao de queijo, which are small Parmesan cheese rolls celiacs generally refer to as Chebe. The menu is varied including traditional Brazilian dishes, Tex-Mex food and burgers for the kids. While I cannot list a lot of GF choices, I can attest to their willingness to accommodate the diet. Beijing Wok Chinese Restaurant Address: 8106 Brodie Lane, No. 109 Austin, TX 78745 Show me this location on a Mapquest Map of Austin (Part of Town: South) Phone: 512-282-1442 Cost: between ![]() ![]() Type of Food: Chinese Recently I've been getting the Seasame Shrimp, and it is EXCELLENT, I tell them special soy sauce when I order it, even though I don't believe there is any soy sauce involved, and it comes out Gluten Free. Special Soy Sauce is the key phrase, and the kitchen interprets that to mean Gluten Free, they have a 7 page list of what is and isn't Gluten Free and guidelines on how to best prepare things for Celiacs. The shrimp originally came with no breading, just shrimp in the sesame sauce, but the staff at Beijing Wok felt I was "suffering" so they have figured out how to make a batter with corn products and the shrimp is now in a breaded like condition! It is EXCELLENT. |
