Monk

When Monk first aired I enjoyed it... but couldn't stick with it. Sharona (sp?) just got on my nerves... she was proud of Monk, and that was obvious, but she seemed to get so annoyed with him that there were times when I wasn't sure which she felt more, pride or annoyance.

Then Natalie came along.. and I watched a Monk marathon on USA and voila, I was hooked! Natalie was in over half of the episodes and she has this adorable maternal instinct that makes it clear she cares about Monk because he is a good person and he NEEDS her, more than she needs the job, which is good for her. She is the one who can give, it makes her feel strong, and she seems to love, just as Sharona did, watching Monk fit all the pieces together.

So I watched all of Season 5 that has aired so far, and then, in the ultimate sign that the show has sucked me in, and gotten me curious about how the Stotlemeyer I remember from the early Sharona episodes evolved into the Stotlemeyer of Season 5 I went out and bought seasons 1 - 4 on DVD. Now if that doesn't scream show that makes you think, where the characters grow and evolve and become "more" from one season to the next, I'm not sure what would.

For me, I highly recommend Monk on DVD... and USA.

David Foster, you've got my vote, don't give up!

Marie Osmond gives wonderful feedback, and shares her vast understanding of duets and stage performing on Celebrity Duets, but David Foster gives great feedback for the AUDIENCE that has helped me to enjoy the show more and more.

I should note that I have NEVER sat through a reality show before! But David Foster's suggestions to LISTEN, close your eyes and not WATCH the performances, may be the best advice for audience members.

For those who say Lea Thompson was a bad singers -- because she dressed like a slut... uhmm, excuse me, but where did her short skirt come into how her voice sounded???? Were you listening to her sing? And judging her singing ability/ After all, Celebrity Duets is not "Celebrity Stage Fashions"

Lea Thompson, as Marie Osmond pointed out, made the great effort to not just sing at the same time as Randy Travis, and not just try and sing back and forth with him, but she made the effort to harmonize with one of the more challenging voices out there. I may not be a talented singer, or even a singer, but when Marie Osmond says she's sung with Randy Travis and it is indeed the challenge you would think to harmonize with that remarkably deep voice of his.

The judge who David Foster is forever making no sense -- Little Richard... is perhaps best acknowledged only as that which the show would be better without, for at best one in 10 of his comments make sense, and Wayne brady (the host) is exactly right when he says it is hard to know when Little Richard is paying a compliment, or making a put-down.

My take on Celebtiry Duets? Thanks to Marie Osmond and David Foster's very worthwhile comments in their capacity as judges, I'll keep watching. But the simple truth of the matter is if you take David Foster's advice and LISTEN instead of watching the show, you'll be left as I am, wondering why Lea Thompson was the second to go home.

On Friday, September 8, Bravo's broadband channel BrilliantButCancelled.com will launch the all-new "Fall Season Death Watch 2006" game to coincide with the kickoff of the broadcast networks' new fall season line-ups. For the first time, visitors to BrilliantButCancelled.com can handicap the fall season along with network executives and television critics as they cast their vote for the shows they think will be the next big hit, flop, or brilliant but cancelled.

Each week for nine weeks, players will pick from the list of 24 broadcast series premieres and vote on the one show they think is most likely to be cancelled that week. As each voter weighs in, the show odds will adjust automatically so that voters can continually see exactly where each show stands. Information about the new series, including show descriptions, plotlines and cast members, and recent ratings will be available on BrilliantButCancelled.com to help visitors cast their vote. Players can also compare notes with one another on the site's message boards. Each player will be allowed one vote per week, and big flops are met with big prizes. Everybody who picks the first show to be cancelled in a given week will be entered into a drawing to win a Video iPod. If no show is cancelled that week, everybody who voted that week will be entered for a chance to win the prize.

"The whole idea behind Brilliant But Cancelled is that passionate television viewers deserve to have a voice," said Kris Slava, Bravo's Vice President for Digital Content and Acquisitions. "Everybody looks forward to the new Fall Season. This contest is a fun, offbeat way for users to roll up their sleeves and test their programming skills against those of the critics and network executives. It's going to be very interesting to see how accurate they are."

As the new fall TV shows premiere, the dice will begin to roll:
